And We Have A Winner!

Well, a very close winner. Paticus thinks that both homes are made out of Lego blocks and he is close by golly (see below). We had some great guesses for yesterday’s game. And now let’s find out what the structures actually have in common.

This home recently featured in North Shore Magazine, is owned by John and Lynn McKinven and has been dubbed the “Lego House” by neighborhood kids. I think the name fits. Don’t you? Even the little bushes around the home are pointed much like a Lego tree.

Now this structure, well technically, this church is as Paticus guessed made entirely out of Lego’s. if you look closely you can see the tiny bricks. This is the coolest thing ever. Take a look at these pictures:

In this one you can clearly see the bricks.

And an indoor view…

Amy Hughes, the woman who built this Lego church titled it the Abston Church of Christ and dedicated it to her cat (who died the same day she finished building) so the whole thing is a little quirky — but there’s no doubt that she is amazingly talented. The website she has for this is the most fun ever. You have to check it out. She has the most amusing Q&A I’ve ever seen with questions related to why she named the little people in the church and if the Lego people talk to her (they don’t, whew).

Can you believe the detail? Simply amazing.

Visit Hughes website for more information and many more pictures (including a whole pictorial of the cat inside the church)… Just don’t get too sucked in. I found myself thinking what other neat Lego structures might be out there after visiting her site. So I went to a few sites for ‘adult Lego builders’ and there is this whole crazy Lego adult world that I never knew existed. I knew there were cool Lego structures because I just recently took my son to Brickfest 2007 (I think it was called) in Portland, Oregon — and it was amazing.

But I never knew that there were whole websites devoted to finding that one special blue #43 piece to complete a design. I could feel the Lego world sucking me in because really wouldn’t it be fun to build something this intricate. But my plate is full so I clicked out. I think I’ll stick to building tiny castles with my six year old and leave stuff like this to the pros.

What about you? Ever built something amazing with Lego blocks?

Pretty awesome. Not much more I can say than that, but wow. That was fun to see. Thanks.

  2. Angelique says:

Okay, now I am totally psyched to do this. Forget about freelance writing! I want to be a freelance Lego artist! : )

Seriously, I applaud anyone who has this kind of creativity and passion. I have always adored Legos (my almost-four-year-old is playing with some downstairs as I type), and I believe they can be used to stimulate your imagination when the ol’ well is running a little dry.

Thanks for blogging on this one!

  3. Ben… I know not much you can say; it’s just “too cool” — my son’s favorite saying. And I’m not sure Angelique, but it may not be the best financial decision to quit writing and start building. I think the overhead is pretty large… But if you give it a shot let me know because I’ll sure as heck blog it.

    Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve seen these pictures before, through email blasts. I’m amazed every time I see them. *sigh* I’m currently in the dark ages that this lady talked about on her site. Perhaps I’m ready to pull out my three tubs full of legos soon. I’m starting to miss them!

I have a friend in NZ who takes lego very seriously. Until he started explaining lego I never understood what amazing things people did with it. I love the idea of a house that mimics lego, particularly: it’s saying all sorts of interesting things about humans and their worlds.

  6. It would appear that everyone loves Lego’s. I’m impressed that folks are ready to get their Lego’s out and start building. I always build the same boring Lego house with little flowers outside and one tree. My son is highly impressed but he’s six. I’m just not handy with the Lego’s. Although I am creative in other ways. Like I can carve a mean dragon out of a bar of soap… Now there’s an idea. If I carve a house out of soap I could post that for sure. Until it rained.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for a visit!

  7. Darn you Jennifer, did I have to know about this? How weirdly fascinating! I just spent untold minutes looking at all the pictures of cats in church!

I love the woman’s comments too:
“My cats…liked rubbing their faces on the many corners. I had to vacuum the church before I installed the pews.”

    Great stuff.

  8. Yes Crabby: we all must know about this — it’s a no brainer. The cat stuff was so great huh. So are you going to give up fitness for Legos? Or maybe cats? Thanks for visiting!
