Angelina Jolie: ED or No ED?

As promised, the next celeb I’d like to evaluate as we ask the gossipy question “ED or No ED?” is Angelina Jolie.
Now, Ms. Jolie has a history of eating disorders and self-destructive behaviors. (Case in point: Look at her tumultuous relationship with Billy Bob Thornton, who also suffered from an ED.) So it’s clear that she has HAD an ED in the past. But I’ve been wondering if perhaps it’s resurfaced (or never really left).
My research travels around cyberspace have dug up a few interesting notes…
The-F-word.org blog (please visit — it’s fascinating and clever) shared a quote Angelina made in 2007:
“‘I have always been lean and this year I lost my mother and I’ve gone through a lot.
‘The thing that’s disturbing is that instead of people saying, ‘This looks like a person that’s actually dealing with something, probably from emotions’, they say, ‘Does she fit into skinny jeans and look thin?’
‘I want people to understand who I am as a person is not somebody that’s trying to look thin, but just trying to work through a very difficult year.’”
It’s a intelligent quote, that’s for sure. And it does make you think. But given her past history with EDs, I find it a little suspicious that she says she’s always been “lean”. Hmm. And just how did she stay that lean?
Okay, so perhaps I’m reading too much into this. Let’s examine another bit of Jolie info from the Internet:
At Self-Injury.net, I discovered that, at least according to their sources:
“Angelina has the Japanese symbol for ‘death’ tattooed on her shoulder, and the Latin words, ‘Quod me nutrit me destruit,’ on her stomach, meaning “What nourishes me also destroys me.’”
Yikes. If I met someone who believed so deeply in that saying that they had it tattooed on their stomach, I would wonder, wouldn’t you?
Again, though, weirdness does not constitute an active ED. So let’s look at one more piece of evidence…
I’m Not Obsessed tells readers that around the time of spring/early summer 2007:
“…Dr. Bronstein M.D., a psychiatrist and eating-disorder specialist, Angie looks dangerously malnourished.
‘Based on my observations, she is severely underweight and around 105 pounds – and that’s really low.’ The veins on her arms seemed strikingly and unusually bulbous – and Bronstein says that could be a red flag.”
Red flags are definitely waving, but that doesn’t mean Angelina has an ED.
So what do you think? Is Jolie trapped in the ED cycle? Or is she just too busy and overwhelmed to eat?
Next time, Calista Flockhart is on the radar…

I haven’t been commenting because I don’t think it’s fair of us to debate whether another human being has an ED or not. It just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s none of our business and if they don’t have ED’s, which is entirely possible, then reading people debating over their health can be so insulting.
Sorry, I just had to share my thoughts.
Katie:
I really appreciate your thoughts on this one. I don’t like to discuss celebs too much, but I wanted to see if any of my visitors had an opinion about these gals (and guys).
Thanks for commenting! I like to hear all sides of the story, even when they include, “Let’s not talk about this subject.”
