This is a horrible tragedy. My prayers are with the family. I am sorry that the father felt that this was the only solution. He must have been very depressed and desperate. It's sad that his family missed those signs - this should not have happened.

It's cases like this that illustrate how important support is for all members of a special needs family. It also points out the importance of educating society that autism is not a death sentence (Jenny and Oprah, are you listening?). The world is a far better place because my children are in it and my husband and I try to celebrate that fact each and every day. We are truly blessed.

I honestly don't think I will ever understand what Kyle's father was thinking at that one second when he looked at Kyle and shot him. I don't care if you have the hardest life, you don't ever dare shoot your own kid. When I found this upsetting and horrifying thing out I was speechless...my own relative was shot by his father. I will always have the sickest feeling in my stomach everytime I think about Kyle. It doesn't matter at all that Kyle had a disibility...he is a human being just like everyone else in this world. Kyle, you have gone to a great place where you will be loved and cared for. Know that your family and friends will always love and be thinking about you. I love you Kyle. R.I.P.

So much of the press is foccussed on Mr. Dutter, but Kyle's parents were divorced and he also lived in shared custody with his mother and older sister. From reports this is a shock and tragedy for them. My heart goes out to them.

I was kind of offended in an interview of his sister where she talked about how "Kyle was her life", and how unexpected this was, and the print was about how much she loved Kyle, but the interviewer kept maneuvering around to try and get her to say that this was, while not justified, also not unexpected because of the stresses and financial strain of autism.

She would not agree with this point, and good for her.

My mind is boggled... The father's family was quoted as saying what a good father he was, and how much he loved his son, and that he wanted to take him to heaven with him and ease his suffering... which makes no sense to me. I just can't imagine the thought process that goes into something like this.

They've set up a memorial fund. In the father's name, for crying out loud. They say some of the money will go to autism research, but for the life of me there's no way I could write a check with that man's name on it, I don't care how good of a cause it is.

How tragic. Very sad, I have been crying and when I looked at his web site it made it feel as though we knew them. God be with them.
