Another study on arthritis

In the healthcare field, it’s obvious that arthritis is really gaining hold, especially as our population ages. What’s not as obvious is the effect the resulting chronic pain and disability has on our society and the importance of dealing with it. This article, The prevalence and impact of arthritis and other rheumatic conditions in the United States reviews the numbers of people who are affected, including children.
Did you know that there are, according to this article, “an estimated 294,000 children between the ages of infancy and 17 are affected by arthritis or other rheumatic conditions”? That’s a scary number of children who are living with chronic pain.
As with many illnesses, mountains will only be moved for cures if there is a large enough uproar over the illness and a large enough effect that the illness may have on society as a whole. I think that mountain is getting bigger right now.
