Another Sunday Sanity Event

As I promised yesterday – through the tears! – we’re having Saturday Sanity on Sunday this weekend.

• I received notice that Searching for God in the Brain, an article in Scientific American Mind, had been published. Having only just skimmed the six-page article thus far, I’m not ready to comment on it. First thought, though? Scientifically explaining anything having to do with religion usually leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Will that first thought change? After I read the article again and give myself more time to digest the information, it may change.
• Post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as other mental health situations, among America’s military service men and women is getting a closer inspection in Montana. Meanwhile, other service members are actually getting billed to pay back their sign-on bonuses after they’re discharged from the military due to what the military claims are pre-existing mental health conditions. (You can bet I’ll be commenting more on this little gem later.)
• “The Vancouver Island Health Authority will supply $7.6 million for measures to ease Victoria’s homeless crisis, including new detox beds and specialized outreach teams.” If I weren’t so damned American, I swear I’d move to Canada.
• It appears that California will always be too liberal for me – and that’s saying a lot. I’m quite the bleeding heart at times, but talk of “opening a city-funded, legal center where intravenous drug users can congregate, get free needles and inject themselves in a safe environment” has me livid.
• Borderline Personality Disorder Care Inadequate, According To Psychiatric Nurses. I was interested in this article. I’m working on getting a lady I know, who has a good deal of experience with BPD, to guest post here at Mental Health Notes. I’ll keep you updated.
