Another “Why didn’t I think of that?” Moment
It boils my blood to read stories like this one, about the two women from Calgary, Canada. I’m not pissed because they are successfully running a baby prep business for expecting parents. No, I’m really very happy for them. I’m only kicking myself for not doing it before they did. I opened a blog, awhile back, that answered pregnancy questions, reviewed a few products and discussed common pregnancy concerns. It was pretty popular, for being an un-sponsored, unpaid blog. Had I any guts, I would have taken it one step further, like I dreamed about doing. I really envisioned a business, like Megan Greff and Simone Dahl operate. I wanted to provide expecting mommies and daddies with the knowledge, resources and physical assistance it takes to fully prepare for the arrival of a new baby. However, raising seven kids does not allow for much in the way of entrepreneurship. So my dream remained just that.
When I read about “The Baby Planners, Inc.” this morning, I about choked on my orange juice. That was my idea!! Actually, was is the key word. Megan and Simone now own the idea and make a good living off of it. My life is full of “Why didn’t I think of that?” and “Why didn’t I act on that?” moments. This is just another one of them (sigh.) Am I alone here, or does anyone else experience this?

I have lots of those moments when I’m in awe of the creativity of some entrepreneurs. But that doesn’t mean you can’t follow that idea and do something with it. How can you change it up and make it different from what they’re doing? Can you do something like that locally vs. online?
Competition is a good thing and they have tested the waters and have been successful so there must be a way for you to make it uniquely your own. Good luck!
Me! I always do that! I’m always coming up with ideas or ways of starting a business but time and energy get in the way ;( Someday!
When we first moved into our new house, I loved to plant impatiens in the front. I did not, however like to dig up the holes, so Stevo took his drill and attatched a wall hook to it and it worked great! After 4 years of using that contraption, I told him we needed to get a patent for that…a little too late, we were watching an infomerical and low and behold, someone already had one! Damn it, I hate when that happens!
They say that copying is the sincerest form of flattery and these two women took EVERYTHING from The Baby Planners I saw on The Rachael Ray Show a year ago! Go ahead and throw your hat in the ring and follow the lead of the Baby Planners in Los Angeles who created this brilliant idea and who seem to be doing it right!
