April is Cancer Control Month

Happy April everyone! You know what April means? For those of us in the colder north -spring may actually arrive one day. You’ll have to forgive me. As a Canadian, specifically one in Quebec where we are used to winter – this one has been a long, long winter. We’re all just ready to cry uncle.

For everyone in the US, it’s also Cancer Control Month.

While we still spend millions and millions of dollars on research and on education for cancer prevention, there are still some people who don’t take steps to reduce their risks of developing cancer and there are those who do have cancer, but who don’t make it because cancer still can’t always be beaten.

Sadly, most of us know people who did do all the “right things” to ward off cancer but they still got it. Cancer prevention isn’t a guarantee, unfortunately. But, like wearing a seatbelt in a car, cancer prevention can reduce the risks and the numbers of people who end up with the disease.

Throughout the month, I’ll be talking about cancer and pain; how it doesn’t always have to be there and how to manage it if it does come up. The Science and health channel here at b5 is also going to have a cancer theme day that I’ll be hosting here at HelpMyHurt.

If you have anything you would like to share, be it stories of how you managed with cancer, how it affected you, or anything that you feel you would like to say, please contact me and we’ll spread your word.

In the mean time, take care of yourselves – for yourself and for those who love you.
