Are maternity bras necessary?

Whether you’re a woman who never wore a bra before you were pregnant or you are wondering if you need a special maternity bra, chances are you aren’t sure A) if you really do need to wear a bra, or B) what kind of bra to get.
Unless you’ve been told otherwise because of a physical problem, there’s no medical reason why you should wear a bra while pregnant – it’s definitely a matter of comfort.
Wearing a bra is a personal choice, however, during pregnancy, your breasts get bigger and heavier. While you may be comfortable not wearing a bra when you aren’t pregnant, it may not be so comfortable while you are. In fact, many women end up wearing their bras even at night.
If you do buy some maternity bras, be sure they fit you right. You can’t go by the size you wore before your pregnancy, so you’ll need to measure yourself or go to a specialty store where they can do the measurements for you.
Be sure the bra feels comfortable, has wide enough shoulder straps to support your larger breasts, and has good closures in the back. If you will be breast feeding, try opening and closing the flaps *with one hand* to see if you can do so. It’s best you find out before you buy that the fastener is too difficult for you then when you’re trying to feed a crying baby.
