Are We Ready for Government Parenting?

There seems to be concern that provisions in the proposed health care bills in Congress and promoted by President Obama will result in government /state control of our parenting and grandparenting. Are we ready for government agents to come into our home and “advise” us on our children and child rearing practices?

Chuck Norris has researched this portion of the proposed bills and has written about some of the highlights. Yes, this is the actor Chuck Norris who played Walker, Texas Ranger. However, he and his wife Gena are very active with the nonprofit Kick Start program in public schools in Texas, to help youngsters build up their self-esteem and learn respect and discipline. They founded this program 17 years ago.
Another writer has addressed this concern about the health care bill, Home Visitations in the Health Care Bill threaten Parental Rights. You’ll find this at the Independent Learning and Homeschooling site.
If you’re not aware of some of these provisions being considered that could affect your rights as parents and your children’s rights as children, you might want to do some research.
Ask yourself the question, “Am I ready for government parenting of my children?”

It sounds like you have become one more dupe of the right-wing movement to stifle much-needed health care reform. It concerns me that the people who stand to benefit most from improvements in our very needy, insurance-controlled health care system are the ones who have become gullible opponents to the current proposals for its reform. Do research beyond that of the Norrises and you will surely find how health care reform will benefit millions of our country’s children, their parents, and their grandparents.
Well, I am not used to it. However if that’s for a better parenting strategy then why not try…
It’s interesting to find people who won’t mind government agents and “specialists” coming into their home and telling them how to raise their children and what morals and religious values to teach. It’s one thing to make health and nutrition suggestions, but will this go further? Will it become a matter of, “Do what we say,” (and some of the experts may not have children or raised any)”or we’ll take your children away.” It’s well to research the matter. Will this be mandatory or voluntary? Exactly what does it mean? Will the law affect children and grandchildren of those in Congress voting for it? Just ask some questions and do some research.
Thank you, Mark and Patrice, for stopping by and expressing your views. There seem to be many diverse opinions on the topic of government control of parenting.
