Are You Drinking Your Water? (I Wasn’t)

A few months ago, Hope at WeightingLine.com gave us all a gentle reminder that we really should be drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day and challenged her readers to see if they could do it. Since I am a competitive soul, of course, I said yes.
And, of course, I suck. True confession, right here: I find it nearly impossible to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. Why? Because I hate water.
Actually, I love water. I love swimming in it. I love feeling it on my toes at the beach. I love watching a gentle rain douse my balcony. I just don’t care to drink it.
So, I am starting with a negative balance already. But then add to that recent news which puts the benign nature of my nalgene bottle into question and the fact that disposable water bottles, once so cool that you could buy designer carriers for them, are now the new social pariah…What the heck is a dehydrated yet eco-friendly girl to do?
I was so thrilled to find out about Primo water. From Primo:
Primo makes water bottles from plants, not crude oil, like those other water bottle companies — and they’re the only water bottle company in the U.S. that does this. If every weekend warrior, soccer mom and jetsetter traded in their other water bottles for Primo’s better bottled water, Americans would save 1 billion gallons of gas each year. Now that’s a sip in the right direction!
Ok, well that makes water a little more palatable. The only differences I can tell between Primo and other bottled waters is that the bottle itself feels a little more flexible than others, still sturdy. And unlike some other bottles, it doesn’t taste as, well, bottle-y. Plus I cannot wait to counter the next do-gooder ready to chastize me for my water bottle-induced carbon impact – hang on there buddy. My bottle’s made of corn!
Primo water can be found at select Krogers, Ralphs and Food4Less stores nationwide.

Hey wait, you have entered the latest Green Giveaway, right?

I’ve never heard of Primo, but it definitely sounds like THE bottled water to buy! Thanks for the head’s up about it.
Hey, that water sounds nice and warm and fuzzy – I’ll have to try it.
And yes, drinking that much water is HARD. WHen I was briefly pregnant, and had to drink a ton, my husband would regularly call me to remind me to drink. And now I only drink water because I got used to it, but I do miss my gatorade and pop.
For most people water is a necessity and very healthy. But for women who tend to overstimulate and bloat, water can be VERY dangerous. Of course, one should consult their doctor, but it’s important to know that many people should not be drinking 8 glasses of water per day.
Also, bottled water? Why not use your tap water (filtered if you like) in a pcb free bottle. Not only is it free, it’s healhier for the environment.
Here from NCLM.
margalit, you’re right – tap water in my favorite insulated coffee mug is what I prefer to have in my hand, but for those days when that mug is being used for coffee or left in the car, the (non-petroleum based) bottle is a decent alternative. Thanks for your comment!
I’m totally with you margalit and do my best to re-use my bottles and to my joy and happiness tap water here does NOT taste like dirty river or swimming pool! =) I am sad that I am no where near any of the stores that carry Primo, since it IS so delicious and non-plastic-y tasting. =( If it were @ the Hess station, I would be all OVER it. =)
Hi, Gabrielle.
Thanks for posting a comment on my site at http://www.toptenz.net/top-ten-wines-under-ten-dollars.php . I really like this blog and the focus on all things green and I think you could write a great top ten list for it. I would give full credit and a link directly to your excellent blog. I get about 2000 visitors per day so you could receive a large amount of traffic. If you are interested, please email me at admin[at]toptenz.net.
In any case, thanks for the comment!
Ooo- one other thing I thought of on the bottled water topic. Take this as you will, but when my cousin was nearly passed out after his wedding two years ago (a combo of a few too many brews @ the rehearsal dinner, nerves, rediculously hot and humid weather in Central PA [like now - HA!] a non-air-conditioned church and reception @ a tent in the backyard) a Dr. in the fam said absolutely no bottled water! ONLY from the tap, as it’s been regulated while bottled water is not requred to be. Just a little tidbit I wanted to pass along…
