Arkansas Mom Prepares for Birth of 17th Child

Michelle Duggar said Monday in a telephone interview from her northwest Arkansas home that the whole family is excited about the arrival of the baby girl they will name Jennifer Danielle, keeping with the family tradition of giving the child a name that begins with J.

Jennifer Danielle is due late July.

I’m really torn on this one. I know how difficult it is to pay special attention to my own children and there are only two of them — and my husbands kids, also two of them.

Could these children possibly be getting the love and attention they need and deserve?

Not to mention the career path of dad. I’m sure he’s not home as much as the kids would like.

Thoughts?

Just curious what other people think on this whole 17 babies deal.

To each his own, but there is no way I could handle 17 kids. My body would have self destructed by now. If she is truly happy and can care for all her child, great, but I also wonder how she can be close to any of them.

If she can handle it good for her. But I think that is to many children..With the cost of living going up how can they manage. I hope she has one or two good nannies when she needs a break.

my question is how can they afford that many? Wow. Granted I’m guessing many companies send FREE stuff their way in hopes of getting some mention during an interview or something.

It would be interesting to see a follow-up story in ten or fifteen years as the older kids grow up and leave home. I’d be curious as to how they turned out.

Why?!?! Why would she do that to her body and mental health? The answer, of course, for her, boils down to religion. I read a very lengthy newspaper article on that family last year. Even then I thought, WT…? Why???? But, like Char said perfectly, to each their own. And they live a very modest lifestyle with almost zero frills that sort of works well for them where they live and for what he does (a minister of some kind I think the article said). They do get some help, but they mostly keep a very tight reign on money. I get that helps when it comes to saying no all the time; that and the kids really don’t live close enough to the urban areas to be matierialistic.
