Arncraft, What A Wonderful Name

Mouse Frog–who were the parents? Nevermind, I don’t want to know.

Arncraft, the article I’m linking to for this weekend’s post, is part of www.creativekidsathome.com.  And, as it states in the index page of this site, it seems that Arnold (you might have guessed, eh?) teaches kids to reuse old items to make toys.  (The above picture comes from the Arncraft site).

I like this idea.  It not only keep some common items (computer mouses–or is it mice?–old videocassette tapes, CDs and remote controls) out of the landfill, it also teaches kids to create and invent–something that may be harder to come by in schools with larger class sizes and focus on test scores rather than hands-on sorts of learning.

Peruse the site, it’s a rare treat to see what Arnold comes up with.  HEED THE WARINING ON THE ARNCRAFT SITE, CHILDREN NEED PARENTAL SUPERVISION, IF NOT PARENTAL HELP TO CREATE THE ITEMS ON HIS SITE!

Now that we’ve gotten the bold and caps message out of the way, we can move on to my favorite toys from Arnold’s fabulous brain.  I love the computer mouse frog–it took me a second to figure out it was an old mouse.  My second favorite, not far behind the mouse frog (haha, now there’s an image–sorry, had a bit of a mental picture there, I hope you shared it with me) is the telephone/remote control robot.  Now, that is a great way to reuse old electronics equipment.

I am always amazed at what people come up with, Arnold is not only no exception, he has a great deal of fun teaching others the Junk Creation way.  Way to go, Arnold!
