Article: Chronic pain harms the brain

The press release starts: “People with unrelenting pain don’t only suffer from the non-stop sensation of throbbing pain. They also have trouble sleeping, are often depressed, anxious and even have difficulty making simple decisions.”
Part of me wants to say, “oh brother, another really obvious finding,” but then I thought about it. Many people, even those in the medical community, do not take the issue of chronic pain seriously enough. Perhaps studies like this are helpful and may draw attention to the issue. So, I reached for my cynicism button and pressed “off.”
