Asian Store Opens in New Haven, CT

There’s a new kid in town — Jason Chou and family have opened a new Asian store in New Haven that will cater to students and alumni of Yale University as well as other Asians/Asian-Americans in the area. They offer live fish, frozen dumplings, Ramen noodles, fresh Chinese vegetables and bubble tea. They also have a coffee bar. The Chous are a Lutheran Christian family, with first names all starting in “J” — Jason, Jean, James and Jason’s new bride Jeannie Kim — hence the name of the store. Opening a new business is a retirement move for James and Jean (Jason’s parents) who recently retired from traditional jobs.

This market is surprisingly clean (compared to most Asian markets). However, the bone I have to pick is that the prices are ridiculously high. I guess you have to pay a premium for having such a clean store. The people there are pretty nice and they do have most Asian goods..sufficient at least…Just very very expensive.

Very clean and people are very nice… especially the lady. It might be more expensive than other asian stores (I didn’t visit too many) but it seemed reasonable to me
