“Assault on our womanhood”?

An article in today’s edition of the U.K.’s Daily Mail shares this statistic, one I found quite shocking:
The average British woman is twice as likely to have her womb removed as her tonsils. In the UK, almost 40,000 women undergo the operation each year…
And, apparently, Camilla, Duches of Cornwall, is the newest member of the hysterectomy club. (Other well-known women who’ve had hysterectomies include Eva Peron in 1951 and Roseanne Barr in 2003.)
Did you know those numbers were so high? I had no idea! I’ve met a few women in my life who had hysterectomies at various ages, and none of them regretted it. One shared that she worried before the procedure that she’d feel like less of a woman afterward, but the physical relief was so great and the emotional impact of no longer having problems with her womb so positive that she confessed to wishing she’d done it 10 years earlier instead of putting it off because of fear.
