At a Loss

I think all of us have experienced loss of some kind at various times of our lives; loss of love, life, work, friends, etc. I’m sure you can think of many more losses you have lived through. Spend some time writing about loss in your journal today. If it helps, make a list of your losses. If this makes you sad try to focus on the ways your life has benefited in the long run directly and indirectly from these losses. Sometimes a loss will force us to reassess our priorities or to focus on other aspects of our lives. How many people have been told they have cancer or some other illness, which then brings about some remarkable change in their lifestyle?
Even the probability of loss could be enough to propel you down a new road you might never have felt brave enough to travel before. This journal writing prompt may be the tool you need to open up to some memories previous kept hidden away. Perhaps now is the time to mourn those losses you didn’t allow room for earlier.
To keep a balance, especially if your life has been filled with losses, also write about what you have gained in this life. How many of these things might not even have eventuated if you had not experienced the loss first?
I hope you enjoy this journal writing prompt. Please leave any comments in the section below.
