When my sister and her husband got married, a couple of girls that we grew up with sang a song by the Judds. I can’t remember the name of the song, which means it was a song that meant something important to their romance, but had very little to do with my own experience. I found a report on marriage and divorce that led me to look at both in a different way. People say things like, “divorce is on the rise” or “divorce rates are higher than ever,” but where do they get this information?   I grew up with divorced parents who remarried and then divorced, then divorced again. My earliest memories are full of divorce, not marriage. I think that in some way that led me to think that nothing lasts forever. My grandparents were married.
