Can You Be Friends With An Ex?

Do you think it’s possible to be friends with an ex? I’ve been giving this idea some thought lately. I’ve come to the conclusion that it depends on the ex. Other factors contribute including what sort of relationship it was, how it ended, if there are unresolved feelings. I have been divorced for almost 17 years. It’s been 12 years since there was any sort of unresolved anything between my ex-husband and myself. That is a lot of years. In that time our kids have grown and we’ve reached middle age. In that time he remarried, had two more kids, and is now getting a divorce. Shouldn’t all that time and life experience allow us to be friends? Apparently not, because I tried to contact him the other day to... [Read more]
The Playlist Of Your Love Life

When my sister and her husband got married, a couple of girls that we grew up with sang a song by the Judds. I can’t remember the name of the song, which means it was a song that meant something important to their romance, but had very little to do with my own experience. What songs are considered the most romantic? Who decides what is on the list? I was just looking at a list of Top Love Songs and it goes like this: 1. Always by Atlantic Starr 2. In My Life by the Beatles 3. We’ve Only Just Begun by the Carpenters 4. Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker 5. Then He Kissed Me by the Crystals 6. Chapel of Love by Dixie Cups 7. I Do (Cherish You) by 98 Degrees 8. This I Promise You by NSYNC 9. Fields of Gold by Sting... [Read more]
Are Divorce Rates Really Higher Than Ever?

I found a report on marriage and divorce that led me to look at both in a different way. People say things like, “divorce is on the rise” or “divorce rates are higher than ever,” but where do they get this information? I grew up with divorced parents who remarried and then divorced, then divorced again. My earliest memories are full of divorce, not marriage. I think that in some way that led me to think that nothing lasts forever. My grandparents were married. My Aunts and Uncles were married, but I was focused on my own family. Mom and dad got married and divorce. Divorce is not necessarily on the rise and divorce rates are not necessarily higher than they’ve ever been. The report that I read mentions that... [Read more]

There are many benefits to eating foods while they are in season. Shopping local fruit and vegetable stands, Farmer’s Markets, or even buying produce that is in season at your local market saves you money. Fruits and vegetables have the best flavor when you eat them at their peak. The Sustainable Table website offers up information on what foods are in season in your area, where Farmer’s Markets are located, Food Co-ops, shopping guides, and a rBGH-free Dairy map. In addition to saving money, enjoying healthier and better tasting food, eating food that is in season and local helps the environment. By purchasing local foods in-season, you eliminate the environmental damage caused by shipping foods thousands of miles, your food dollar... [Read more]
