Help!! My Home is Being Invaded by Chocolate Easter Bunnies

“Just buy a little Easter candy this year, Deb.” I told myself. “Just get enough for The Boy. Anything left in the bag, bring to the cousins’ Easter egg hunt or give to Mr. Ng to bring to work.” And so I did. I thought I gave my son just enough – though any chocolate addict will tell you any candy in the house is too much. Do you know how hard it is for me to keep away from the Easter stash? I’m like a thief in the night…actually I am a thief in the night. I wait until no one is looking and then take a bit off the top – no one will notice if an ear is missing. You know what I’d like to see? A holiday where they give kids fruit and vegetables. That’s right, a big old bag of carrot... [Read more]
My Morning Smoothie

I received a “Magic Bullet” the other day. The gift of a publicist who would like me to review and give it away at She Knows Parties. I was excited. The first thing I did with my new toy was to make my morning smoothie. This may sound like a silly thing, but I take my morning smoothie very seriously. If made correctly it will keep me full and satisfied and will hold me until lunch and beyond. Moreover, I make enough for my whole family and my son gets an entire day’s serving of calcium and fruit in one large glass. And he’s satisfied until lunch as well. I don’t know exact measurements but I can tell you what I throw into my morning smoothie: Lots of fruit – I like berries, pineapples, kiwis and bananas... [Read more]
I Lost 3 Pounds

That’s right, 3, count ‘em, 3 pounds! Now that may not seem like a lot, but to a fat chick who seems to be putting them on instead of taking them off, this is a major milestone. How did I do it? Most of the credit goes to our puppy, Carter. As I told you before I’m taking him on a long walk each morning. Since daylight savings kicked in I’m also walking him in the evenings after dinner. Both Carter and I enjoy the exercise and are sure to make this a daily ritual. Watching What I Eat OK. This is the hardest part for me. I just love to eat. I’m learning through Weight Watchers online that I really can eat what I want. It’s slow going, but some of the things I’m doing are having the Progresso Soups (100... [Read more]
Damn I Feel Good!

So exercise? It’s going very well, thank you very much! I actually have to give most of the credit to our new puppy, Carter. He’s the one keeping me motivated to go for a nice long walk at least once a day – sometimes more. I have to tell you, I feel great. One of the things I love about walking is that it’s so …head clearing. After a good walk I have ideas for blog topics, problems worked out and my whole day planned – and all this before 8:00 AM. If I want to listen to music I can do that, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. What I love best is how I feel when I come home. I start my morning on such a positive note as I accomplished so many different tasks. I took the dog out for some... [Read more]
A Week of Setbacks

Last week was a week of setbacks. No, I didn’t gorge myself or have binges, but I didn’t get much exercising done. Last week my family was sick and it was hard for me to keep up with my regular regime. We have a new puppy and I thought he would be great company and motivation for my morning walks. Not last week. With my son inside sick on the couch, we were relegated to quick functional walks around the back yard. Oh and the puppy? He’s not so much into long walks yet. He’d much rather sit down in the middle of the road and protest. Meal times consisted of Jello or a soft boiled egg for those who couldn’t hold down food. Toast and soup for those with better appetites and whatever was in the fridge for she who waiting... [Read more]
