I haven’t quite figured out why I think this relevant, but it seems to me that this quote could be referenced when answering questions about baldness. It’s from Zebra Question, by Shel Silverstein.

I asked the zebra,

Jeff Bridges – The Iron Monger

• Being John Malkovich – One of my most favorite movies.  The scene where John Malkovich enters the portal to his own brain, and enters a world made up entirely of John Malkovich’s kills me.  Its genius.  This movie would headline my festival.
• Iron Man – ok granted it was just released into the theatre a few weeks ago, so you may have to wait a while for a legitimate dvd release.  But it is hands down the best superhero movie I have ever seen.  Jeff Bridges rocks the bald look.  Ever wonder why the best villains are always bald.  If you know the answer to this let me know.
• The Magnificent Seven – I have not seen this movie, but it is a remake from one of the best movies I have ever seen (The Seven Samurai)- actually watch the Seven Samurai while you are at it.  T.M.S has Yul Brynner and he is a very famous baldy.  Its on my list to watch, anyway.
• Speaking of Yul Brynner you may want to see The King and I.  Many reasons to watch this film- the costumes, the music and dancing, and of course watching Yul Brynner acting like a  spoiled brat.
• Powder - fantastic and out of the world experience with Sean Patrick Flanery and Jeff Goldblum.
• Annie – you must have known this movie was going to make the list.  How could I leave off Daddy Warbucks.  Introduce your favorite 7 year old to the world of Little Orphan Annie.

The Best Bald Movies

Its all about the celebrities (and movies) today at Baldiness. I found out earlier this week that Cameron Diaz is sporting the chrome dome look for her new movie My Sister’s Keeper. In the movie Ms Diaz plays a mother who shaves her head in support of her ill daughter.

While Ms Diaz has not shaved off her golden locks but instead is sporting a bald cap – I think she looks fantastic bald, and if should ever decide to go that way, I am sure she would have no problem getting herself a date.

Cameron Diaz is Bald -Sort of

Like I said earlier, there are more than a few baldies having a great time at the Cannes Film Festival this year. I have no idea who this person is, but he looks important, is bald, and is canadian. And for those 3 reasons alone – he gets his picture put up here. I do hope he was wearing some sunscreen, I understand the sun can get pretty hot out in Cannes.

Baldies Rocking the Cannes Film Festival….still

Seems like everyone in the entire world has been following what’s been going on at the Cannes Film Festival the past couple of weeks.   What you see on Entertainment Tonight or read on Perez Hilton’s blog (which by the way I love) is not necessarily the interesting stuff that has been happening.  I don’t know about you, but I have heard just about enough of who Lindsey Lohan has been kissing, or Angelina Jolie’s babies.

The interesting goings on have nothing to do with A listers (or has beens), its the everyday regular people that have me all excited.  Take Chris for example (he is the one pictured above).  Chris is a film student from Holland, and has come to the festival to hang out, and see some good films.  The man did not score tickets to any major screenings before coming to Cannes.  He just hung out in front of the pavilions and talked to people.  His unusual look, and his ability to “schmooze” helped him to score tickets to a lot of major events.

Personally, I think its his very interesting look (tall and bald) and great confidence that has helped him with getting into the most difficult of screenings.

Chris, if you are reading this – let me know what you thought of the movie Blindness.  I can’t wait until it comes to Canada.

Baldies Rocking the Cannes Film Festival

Would you buy a car from a guy who wore a toupee?

What about a lawyer – would you choose to have a lawyer (who wore a rug) defend you?

What about a doctor? Would you have a problem if your doctor covered up his baldness.

These are my answers:

Car salesman – No -but if he really listened to what I wanted, then I might change my mind. But I really think that if he is covering up his head, then he might not be giving me all of the information that I want to know.

Lawyer – Yes! But I don’t really have an answer to why that is….and I think I might choose a lawyer based on how bad his toupee looked. Again, I am not sure why that is.

Doctor – No way, if the dude is wearing a rug, then I am not comfortable with him treating me at all.

Things To Ponder

I came across this little rant at Vox Populi at the Savannah Now online newspaper. I don’t know who wrote it, I suppose its safe to say the person comes from Georgia.

“I am so tired of going to church on Sunday only to hear my preacher preach about women who wear wigs and have weaves in their hair. I have alopecia and have no choice but to wear a wig. I think it is insulting to have a minister preach on such things.”

This person brings up a good point. While I believe that we should all be comfortable in our skin, there are places where wigs and hairpieces (especially for women) are helpful. Mostly its to put other people at ease. Unless we are very comfortable with our baldness (and that isn’t always easy) – other people become pretty uneasy. Its too bad, but its the way it is these days.

While I think church is a place, where baldness should be accepted and embraced. Not everyone with alopecia feels the same way that I do. If wearing a wig brings about confidence and helps that person feel beautiful, then I support that decision – and so should everyone else – including the minister of the church this person belongs to.

Perhaps a talk with the minister is in order and show off your baldness. Maybe once the minister understands your condition, and your reasons for wearing the wig – it might change things.
