In Vermont, The Guard has been planning on going solar. And they have already eyed a place where they can build a solar farm. What is currently a field filled with snow would soon become a solar farm if they decide to push through with this solar project. Col. Doug Fick is the Vermont Air National Guard’s commander. On this, he says, “Right here what we are looking at right now is one of our prime proposed sites if we go the photovoltaic route.” They are actually looking at putting in 5000 units of solar panels on that available piece of land. That sure will bring in a lot of power to help with their facilities. At present, engineers have been studying the whole project so as to see what would be the best way to actually use... [Read more]

MIT’s Solar Car

Right now, it does look like something that would have come out of a science fiction movie. But there is more to just how it looks. The newest solar race car that the MIT has created has got the goods that will make most owners of alternative energy vehicles drool. The Solar Electric Vehicle Team of the university is the group behind this newest solar race car. They say that this ride can zoom by at speeds of 90 miles per hour. They had spent $243,000 on this one and they call it Eleanor. Just like the vehicle that Nicolas Cage was so afraid of in Gone in 60 Seconds? I don’t know. But anyhow, George Hansel, one of the members of the solar team, shares, “It drives beautifully. It’s fun to drive and quite a spectacle.” They are working... [Read more]

There are tons and tons of gadgets in the market right now and most of us are so addicted to gadgets that we do try to get the very best or the newest. However, did we all realize that the more we purchase these gadgets, the more our carbon footprint is? Yeah, well, let’s just say that each time you need to give juice to your gadget, you plug it right up the grid. But if you had solar powered rechargeable batteries, then you are now lessening a good amount of your carbon footprint. And these solar rechargeable batteries is the brainchild of Knut Karlsen. He names his created the SunCat. And what he did was create solar rechargeable batteries by sticking in strips of a solar cell right around nickel metal hydride batteries. Of course that Karlsen... [Read more]

In San Diego, you will find a structure that is all about the sun and the shade. I know it sounds quite contrasting but hear this out. Have you heard of the Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve? Well, this park has recreational vehicles there. And where there is shade right on top where these RVs are stored. That is the shade part. The sun part comes next. See, right on top of that shade, the officials of the park had decided to go solar and so they mounted a solar power system. That happened last year. And so now, the officials are quite happy with how much they are saving. Well, I sure would if I were saving much power. I’m sure you would too. Anyhow, Tom Philp, Borrego Solar Systems’s senior energy consultant, says, “It provides insurance... [Read more]

Promoting Solar

Marcelo Da Luz has one goal in mind and that is to tell the whole world about the benefits of solar power and that there is such a thing as solar power. After all, many people realize that the sun is there and it is powerful however what they do not know is that it is really something that can help them lessen their energy bills. What Da Luz has done was go on a solar tour by driving around the country in his solar car. His car looks odd though because it is said to be like a UFO of some sort. Recently, he took a stop at Palo Alto and people have been learning more about solar power through his car and through what he has to say. On what he is doing, Da Luz says, “I’ve got no wife, no kids — only a cat, and she probably doesn’t... [Read more]
