Check it out! Marijke Durning, who writes Help My Hurt at the Science & Health Channel has an article in the May issue of The Quilter.
It’s called The Blanket Maker, and is a bio on Mohawk quilter, Carla Hemlock.
Congratulations, Marijke, on the publication of your first non-medical article. What fun to branch into another field of writing.
(I wrote previously about Marijke and gave the link to her gallery of quilts, Can Quilting Help Caregivers Manage Stress and Pain? and b5 Bloggers are Quilters, too. From these you’ll see that Marijke is an avid quilter and does exquisite work.)

Thanks for mentioning the article. I had fun writing it and was thrilled with the outcome. I have the best job in the world (writing) and when I can write about something I love to do, that makes it all the better.
I enjoyed looking at Marijke’s quilts, particularly the 9-patch color one. And it’s good to know that you can get published in many areas.
Hi Jean – that 9-patch quilt is my favorite. I absolutely love it. Too bad it lives in someone else’s home!
I may do another similar one if I can find the pattern I used. I really did love putting it together and the way it turned out.

Hi Jean and Marijke,
The 9-patch quilt pattern is one of the easier ones, yet it has so many variations depending on colors and placement of them in the block. It can become a very intricate quilt. Hope you can find the pattern so you can make one for yourself, Marijke.
