b5media Science and Health Channel Theme Day: Congenital Heart Defects

The first Thursday of every month, b5media’s Science and Health bloggers join together to write about a common topic (you can find a list of the blogs in the Science and Health Channel over in the far right sidebar). This month, we’re focusing on children and I came across one organization that helps kids with congenital heart defects.

Saving Little Hearts has been helping families since 2002. The provide financial and emotional assistance along with educational information. They send out surgery care packages for children undergoing open heart surgery that include “long distance phone cards, disposable cameras, toys and coloring books, Ronnie the Raccoon, various heart defect literature for both children and parents, pens and journals, toiletries and other useful items.” Amazingly generous! They also have a new blog that promises to share a new heart story daily. And the surgery reviews database has information from parents about surgery facilities around the world.

If you’re looking for support and information on congenital heart disease, Saving Little Hearts is a wonderful resource. Also check out the Children’s Health page at the American Heart Asssociation.
