Baby Mind Reader
Sorry if it seems like I’m scrambling a little, here. I am having trouble catching up with current news on Jo, and the last couple weeks have seen re-run watching get crowded out by other activities.
Anyway, this article was quirky enough to deserve a mention. Check out the second item on Derek Ogilvie’s The Baby Mind Reader (Monday, Five, 9pm).
Supernanny attempts to solve child behaviour problems by close observation and handing out practical solutions. On the other hand, The Baby Mind Reader deals with similar problems by reading the child’s mind.
This Times article has more on our baby clairvoyant:
Enter a slightly-built 41-year-old from Paisley with blonde highlights in his thinning hair. Derek Ogilvie is a man with a colourful past. He used to drive a Rolls Royce and own three of Glasgow’s most fashionable bars until a nightclub venture failed six years ago and he was declared bankrupt.
Put me in the skeptic camp, but it might make for amusing viewing on a dreary Monday night. Have any of you UK readers seen the show? What’s it like?

Going to watch it this week (I’ve recorded it). Will let you know what kind of nonsense it is.
I left a long comment at Babylune but I gotta tell you that the show was not as bad as I expected.
The mother-daughter pair that Derek Ogilvie helped in the first episode had some serious issues that I haven’t seen Supernanny deal with. The young single mother (a teenage mum when her daughte rwas born) clearly had some demons in her past and Derek was there to listen and offer helpful advice, esp. urging her to get counseling.
Supernanny is practical advice for the average family. The Baby Mind Reader seems to deal with more serious issues. I’ll know more next week after I watch the next episode.
That said, I’m not convinced that Derek can channel the baby’s thoughts, but he does have empathy for people he talks to. He spent a great deal of time talking with the mom and grandmother. More care and attention than either have ha din a long time I’m sure.
Thumbs up for anybody who tries to help people and make the world a better place!! In this case, grandmother, mom, and daughter all seemed happier, healthier (mentally and physically), and more relaxed.
So, he’s got common sense and empathy…. Nice, but it doesn’t add up to psychic powers.
