Balancing work and pregnancy

Forbes has an interesting article about balancing work and pregnancy.

It gives some solid advice about how to prepare for maternity leave and how to tell your boss and coworkers as well as how to handle any potential discrimination issues that might arise.

I’ve been on both sides of the pregnancy issue at work, and I can tell you that it’s imperative that you handle the matter professionally by letting your boss know before your coworkers as well as crafting a transition plan for your work when you go on leave.

Even if your boss acts less than professionally about it, from an HR standpoint you want to be sure you’ve covered all your bases so that there’s nothing in question about the way you handled yourself.

I also advise, from personal experience, getting the dates of your leave in writing so that there’s no misunderstanding about your return date.
