Yes Laura I did shave my head for charity about 9-10 yrs ago. to help raise money for a family that was from our valley that had been living in Toronto for 1 1/2yrs waiting for a new heart…. the little boy Robbie Thompson was about 18 mos old when we shaved our heads at a slow pitch tourney on Labour Day weekend ….Uncle G and I raised $1 500. and then had our heads shaved the baseball weekend raised around $15K what a good feeling to do that….it was weird to meet new people probably won’t do it again. Robbie has had his second heart now and is doing just fine….J

    Hi Janet,

    thanks for stopping by.

I am so glad to hear that Robbie is doing well. What an amazing experience that must have been to do that for someone.

It makes me smile to know that you were a part of something so great….and selfless. It’s hard for a lot of people, to let go of their hair (eventhough it grows back – for most people).

I remember being really proud for you, when I heard that story.

Well there was a few good things about it. It enables you to start conversations about the charity that you are helping which of course is good….and my hair was about shoulder length …one length only I didn’t dye it or ever use a blowdryer etc…so it was in really good condition so it went to wigs for cancer patients…there was so much hair they shaved it all and boxed all as one mass as much as they could to be able to use it on one or more wigs…that was cool….and Riley our son was still living at home he was about 18. He didn’t know we had shaved our heads as we hadn’t planned to…. Anyway we were in bed by the time he came home that night very late….so we pulled the covers up right to our chins and called him and asked him to turn on the light when he came in….he got such a shock he nearly jumped out of his skin… it was to funny. We were both quite overweight and bald I can just imagine what we looked like. I know this isn’t the same as going bald but I just thought it might be nteresting….Janet

    It’s definitely interesting…and its a great story.

I am glad you told it. I only knew bits and pieces of the story – and the ending (with Riley) is fabulous.

Its funny – I thought this happened much longer than 10 years ago.

I am really pleased you shared this. Thanks :)
