Banned for Being Bald – No More!

In November, Stan Lazaridis will be returning to the game he loves so much.  He has just been cleared to go back to playing soccer for his club, Perth Glory.  Last year Lazaridis was banned from the game, due to testing positive to a banned substance.  A drug that was prescribed for alopecia.

Lazaridis had been taking the drug finasteride.  The reason for the ban, is that finasteride is considered to be a masking agent.  While the authorities slashed the max. sentence (24 months) in half…essentially he was being punished, for taking a drug to help a medical condition.

It has been noted, that the levels in Lazardis’ system were considerably lower than those needed to be an effective masking agent for steroids.

Eventhough he will be allowed to play, he is not to train with his teammates, until the proposed ban is over.

What do you think of this situation?  Should he have been banned in the first place?  Leave a comment, and share your point of view!

    Whoops! http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2325068
(I think the period at the end was screwing things up)

  4. Laura says:

    hmmmm he has GREAT hair.

so what is the real reason he is taking propecia?

  5. Super Soviet says:

That is fairly crappy to ban him from training him with his team. The test for the masking agent presented a low yield of finasteride. If the man was planning on steroid abuse, he certainly went about it the wrong way. I’m not a soccer fan…I’ve always been more akin to hockey and football…still, I understand craptacular his sentence is.
