Barefoot Books Celebrates Adoption

Congrats to Michelle!

Don’t forget about this great giveaway…open until the end of the month!

I received my review (and GIVEAWAY) copy of Motherbridge of Love at just the right time. I was needing something to help me tell AJ’s story to him.

motherbridge.jpgRebecca Wolpinsky, an independent Barefoot Stallholder sent me the book for review…and one to giveaway to you in honor of National Adoption Month.

The book, Motherbride of Love , is one of the most endearing adoption books I have read, and possibly the most artistically gifted I have ever seen. The book gets its name from the London-based organization dedicated to promoting Chinese life and culture within adoptive families. The text comes from an anonymous adoptive mother and is in the form of a whispering poem so textured and lyrical that it carried my heart from page to page.

It celebrates the bond between a parent and a child, no matter if it is the birth parent of the adoptive mother, each has a special bond that is inspiring to the young girl. It does not matter if your child is from China or Russia or from the US. When reading this book any child will know that they are connected, in some way, to their birth mother. And, isn’t that what most children want to know?

Text royalties from the sale of this Barefoot book will be donated to Mother Bridge of Love, a charity that reaches out to Chinese children all over the world in order to develop a connection between China and the West, and between adoptive culture and birth culture.

Other books of interest on Chinese Culture at Barefoot Books:

My favorite adoption book is Two Little Girls by Theresa Reid. I LOVED this book and read it cover to cover in one day.

I have read Motherbridge of Love (at PB kids one day) and thought it was beautifully illustrated. I would love to own a copy!

I don’t have a favorite adoption book, yet. We have the Jamie Lee Curtis one, and My Mei Mei by Ed Young - both are nice. We have a few others that are mediocre, but I haven’t hit on The Book yet. Maybe Motherbridge of Love would be the one? Thanks for offering a copy.

I like the book “Sam’s Sister” and the way it looks at open adoption. I would love to add this book to our collection!

I’m reading “A Mother for Choco” to my 2.5 year old DD to prepare her for her new brother. She LOVES it, and totally understands that each of the children, although different looking from each other, are a family with Mrs. Bear. Please enter me in your giveaway contest.

    Thanks!
    Monica

Well, I’d love to win, and I must admit, this would be my first “adoption” book per se. I have just come to the realization that this might be next for us and need some resources. I am a bit overwhelmed with this process. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. I am not an adoptive mother, but I want to enter this one for my friend. She and her husband are adopting a brother and a sister next month. They are in their home now as foster children and they go in for an adoption hearing next month and they will be their children permanently. The hubby is even coming home from Iraq for it!! Praise the Lord!! These children are going to be in a loving home and not be seperated.

Our family loves Happy Adoption Day by John McCutcheon. We read this to our son, when we brought him home. He was 3 1/2 at the time and could relate to the pictures. We read it every night and started repeating the book to us very quickly. All three of our children now enjoy this book. There are so many great adoption books available!

I have extended this giveaway until the end of November.
