Be Prepared for the Unexpected

Yesterday morning at church I was rostered on to mind the smaller babies in the church nursery. I hadn’t remembered to check the roster so I also hadn’t expected to miss out on the morning sermon. Not that it turned out to be much of a problem. I ended up with only two little boys who both obligingly went off to sleep, which left me with a good forty minutes of free time.
I can’t fit much of a book into my handbag, so I had nothing to read, but do always carry a small notebook, a small sketch book, a pen and a pencil. Using the time well I was able to pull out my treasures and spent a good session writing in my tiny journal. I wrote of the unexpected blessings in my life. At first I was grumpy because I had to look after kids, selfish thoughts, I know. But having a chance to write in my journal gave me much pleasure. Even better because I hadn’t expected that moment. I also read through my other entries made in similar unexpected moments.
While I wrote I thought of this blog and realised what a great entry this would make. I’m simply encouraging you to be prepared for unscheduled journal writing moments in your day.
