You’re about to get engaged! Yay for you! You want that moment when you propose to be the very best and the ring is a huge part of it. Before you run out and get something for your gal, here are some tips to consider.

Get Her Opinion
You can still surprise your girl with a ring if you do it creatively. Get her opinion on rings before buying one. If you’d like to completely catch her off-guard, take one of her friends along to give you an idea of what she would like.

Go Shopping With a Female Relative
You know that aunt that is always asking when you’re going to get married? Why not take her along for an opinion. You might need a woman’s input, and a female relative will be more than happy to give you some feedback.

Get Her Ring Size
It’s great when an engagement ring fits perfectly the minute she puts it on. See if you can get her ring size by looking at other rings she has. If she doesn’t wear rings, compare her finger size to yours (on the sly) so you have some idea of what will fit her when you head to the jewelry store.

Do Your Research
Ring shopping can be really intimidating the very first time you go. Do a little research first so you understand what cut and clarity really mean.

Determine How Much You Can Spend
Men often get sticker shock when it comes to engagement rings. Yes, they are expensive and getting a nice ring is important. However, be realistic on what you can spend. Remember that it’s your future that is most important. Things like buying a house and having children trump getting into debt over an engagement ring. However, do some shopping around and give it considerable thought to get the best ring for your fiancé that you can.
