Bikini wax dangers – and banning?

Although it’s mostly women who go for waxing around their genitals, some men do it too. But did you know that in some states, this is actually illegal?
For example, the state of New Jersey allows waxing of arms, legs, abdomen, neck and face, but their books don’t mention Brazilian waxes specifically.

Believe it or not, so-called Brazilian waxes can be harmful. I remember reading about a case of a woman with diabetes who developed a raging infection, likely because of an in-grown hair or microscopic tear of the very sensitive skin. And, it seems that this isn’t unusual.
Actually, as I wrote that last paragraph, I decided to search for the study. I can’t find the actual link – the one I have says the page isn’t there, but I did find a science blog that talks about it: ScienceBlogs.com . She writes about the article as I remember it.
Fast forward to now. The state of New Jersey wants to ban bikini waxes because of their potential danger and because two women had to be hospitalized as result of infections from the waxing.
Is this killing a mosquito with a sledge-hammer or does this make sense?
What do you think?
