Shirley wrote to me right before Christmas, and told me about the triumph that her son Bil experienced in plunging headfirst into mixed media art! I hope you’ll visit Shirley’s blog, FrazzledSugarPlumMum to see more of his artwork. I cried when I got this message:
Hi Cyndi,
I wanted to thank you again for all your tutorials and techniques on LayersuponLayers. My son did Distance Education at home this last 6 months and overwhelmed with Maths, English etc had neglected his Art subject. Finally finishing his assessment work we were then at a loss as to what to do. So we headed to LayersuponLayers. Much fun was had and several pieces of work were scanned and sent off to the teacher in another city. What a surprise my son had when he heard that the Education Department wanted to buy one of his pieces. The painting he sold will be framed properly and displayed in the new Department of Education Art Gallery.
When we visited LayersuponLayers and before he attempted anything…and we devoted two complete weeks from 9 to 3 on art ….. we discussed your examples and how they were developed into complete projects, the effects you were aiming for and the varied use of different mediums.
Each of the rest of the children is looking forward to exploring the same…with Bil wanting to expand on where we got up to….over the 8 weeks school holidays that is coming up. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to play and learn as well.
For anyone who does home schooling your site is a God send for practical creative exploration.
A proud Mum,
Shirley

Hi Cyndi,
We popped on to see the latest offering and WOW what a surprise for Bil and I ….. “Mum, that’s my art work!” Thanks Cyndi. We are having fun painting the house in the brightest colours we can find AND exploring more art.

LOL! I told you this was coming, but we were all so busy I’ll bet your forgot! I’m really proud of Bil and what he accomplished in such a short period of time. Hope that art becomes a lifelong love
What a neat story. I love Bil’s work – especially Harvest.
I’m curious as to how old Bil is and which painting was purchased by the Ed Dept.
Keep up the art, Bil. You’ve definitely got talent!
Bil is a 15 year old, half Arab macho boy in grade 10 this year. He sold ‘Homeland 2′.
