Bipolar Disorder: Mental Illness Or Spiritual Enlightenment?

Someone once searched Mental Health Notes for “u tube video bipolar disorder.” I don’t really know why that piqued my interest at the time. You can find anything at YouTube: Humor for those who respect grammar. Harry Potter and Prison Break fan videos. Music videos, which are especially helpful when Playlist.com doesn’t seem to want to provide you with the song you want and you aren’t quite feeling up to illegally downloading, and I even watched Requiem for a Dream last week for the first time thanks to YouTube.

And yes, you’ve just gotten a glimpse of some of my favorites on YouTube.

So, anyway, I decided to search YouTube for “bipolar disorder,” and I found tons of videos. More than I can weed through and share here. However, I will share the following two videos. They’re both part of Is Bipolar Mania Spiritual Enlightenment? by Sean, or, bipolarorwakingup.

Sean has other bipolar-related videos in his channel, some of which also deal with the theme of “waking up” and “being enlightened,” but these are the only two I watched.

After watching those two videos, what are your thoughts? Do you believe “bipolar disorder” could actually be some kind of spiritual (or mystical) enlightenment, or do you believe it’s merely a mental illness that, at the best of times and simply put, does indeed lead to heightened, deeper thoughts?

I am bipolar and have had a full-blown manic episode. I do believe that this was a spiritual experience. It has forever changed my concept of God “speaking” to me and instilled great faith as well as nervous fear in me about my religious practices

  2. @ Stephen – Thanks for chiming in :) If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of changes have you made to deal with your “nervous fear” about “religious practices”? Did this manic episode significantly alter your life?

  3. Stephen says:

    Alicia,
I would first like to say that it was very encouraging to me to find the information you provided and I am thankful for others who think outside the box. Dealing with the fear has been a matter of prayer and trust in God that however he is speaking to me, He has a reason. The episode did profoundly change my life, although not in an outwardly apparent way. I guess you could say it has opened up my eyes to possibilities I never knew existed.

  4. @ Stephen – No problem. I believe Sean (who posted these videos on YouTube) has several other mental health-related videos in his channel. You might want to check them out (you can CLICK HERE).

I’m glad you were able to turn your manic episode into something that could help you with fear, your relationship with God, etc. While not everyone thinks the same way about mania, psychosis, etc., I think ending up with a closer relationship with God can’t be a bad thing.

Psychosis is a mental disorder. The brain actually atrophies. This has been studied and observed. First off, there’s no consensus on what enlightenment is. If you believe in the big bang THEORY, then it would be an absurd notion to think that we aren’t all one in essence. Anything else gathered though is psychosis. The truth is, we don’t have a clue of much of anything! People tend to speak of God within the context of their understanding, yet think this as an absolute! This causes much suffering around the world, as cultural and social divides create different images of God. The concept of God seems to cause much more suffering than any positive gain.

Most people get well from treating their psychosis via diet changes and orthomolecular therapy. It’s high-dose nutrients for people whose genetic predispositions require it. I’ve got a condition called pyroluria. Before I treated, I thought I was being enlightened, experiencing energies, hearing peoples thoughts, etc..It’s all nonsense. After months of treatment, I realized this was just abnormal mental processes, and the thoughts I had were just rationalizations for what I was experiencing. It’s very difficult to admit to ones self that one isn’t sane. I was lucky enough to have moments of insight.

It’s ironic that those who claimed to be enlightened and have spiritual insight, lack true insight, or knowledge of the root of their state of being. It’s usually a severe nutrient deficiency which necessitates this bizarre behavior. Check out orthomolecular therapy guys. You will most likely get well.

Their is a direct correlation between heavy metal toxicity and psychosis. Rates of insanity skyrocketed shortly after the industrial revolution. Nuclear radiation, plus all the plastics dumped into our environment are once again causing people to become psychotic in abnormal numbers. Not only that, copper toxicity causes psychosis. We’ve messed up using copper for our water piping, like the romams unknowingly used lead for theirs. This causes madness! Copper is leeched from the pipes when the water becomes too acidic, as is most in the cities.

People aren’t becoming more spiritual. Men are loosing their marbles and huevos! Xenoestrogens, and endocrine disruptors from plastics have havled mens testosterone and sperm counts in the last 50 years! People need to wake up, before it’s too late. We’re in the beginning stages of extinction as we speak. Why you think their are more girls these days then guys? Why you think guys have become so girly? Biologists worldwide agree, something must be done soon.
