Black and White Picture Wall

Here’s a fun use for all those really great black and white photographs you have from your family: turn them into a picture wall. I’ve had one of these in my house for several years now, but when we moved to our new house my husband suggested we put it right up in the entryway. I can’t think of a better place for it.

Now, when people walk in, they immediately see our family. Best of all, with black and white photos you can also add a few that are more recent, but will still fit right in with the older ones. I especially love the photos of my grandparents because they show a completely different time. I like seeing my loved ones when they were young and mischievous!

I used silver or pewter frames throughout the wall to add consistency. I also added to this collection over the years. I started with just a few pictures from my grandma and then kept adding with photos from the other side of my family and also my husband’s family once we got married. If you stick with a color scheme on the frames, it makes it much easier. Then you can combine different sizes and they still work together.

A tip before you hang the photos. Lay them all out on the floor before pounding nails. Get a sense for which photos look best in different positions. Also, use a copy of each photo so you keep the original preserved.
