blessing ribbons

I love my sturdy Bernina 1530 machine – it works beautifully for sewing clothing, quilting & even tolerates goofy ideas like a king-size quilt made out of taffeta.

One of the features I like is being able to program in messages & then embroider them. Most of the time I only really use straight, zig-zag & free-motion stitching, but it’s fun to play!

One idea that I’ve been working with is making “blessing ribbons”.

Ribbons or strips of fabric with positive messages, meaningful dates or even song lyrics on them. I think they would work beautifully on a quilt, sewn into clothing or used to wrap presents. I’ve even tied one around a vase I have in my living room:

I love the look of varigated thread, it gives a lot of interest to the finished ribbon.  Of course, this particular ribbon could do with a swipe from an iron!
