To kick off a “Bloggy Giveaway” here at the Food Bowl, you’ve got a chance to win one of ten copies of the book “A Friend Like Henry!” (Ten winners, one book each.)
The international bestselling book A Friend Like Henry is stealing the hearts of readers everywhere. It is an inspirational and compelling memoir by the mother of a young autistic boy named Dale and his golden retriever Henry.
While most people associate dogs as loving family pets or trained service dogs for those who are physically disabled, most people don’t think of them as a resource for those living with a condition such as autism.
The remarkable true story of Dale and Henry takes you on a journey of unconventional friendship, where a dog not only became an autistic boy’s best friend, but an invaluable tool for living life to the fullest.

I grew up with animals (horses, birds, fish, hamster, dogs, cats….). I had one dog, Misty, who loved children so much. If she even heard kids outside she would cry and cry and cry until we let her out so she could go and see them. She was very protective of kids too.
I had another dog, Sparky, who developed bone cancer. They amputated his leg thinking it would save his life but he died three months later.
I currently have four cats, a dog and a hamster who suffers from Diabetes (yes, they can get Diabetes!). So you can see that I’m truly an animal lover.
My kids and I also volunteer at the local animal shelter. All our pets (including our hamster) were adopted from the shelter, except one cat, who was a feral kitten.
This sounds like a sweet book! I have read Marley and Me and this sounds just as wonderful.
I had parakeets that I named after the ninja turtles!

We had a cat named Kitty. She pretty much stayed to herself and that is why my mom let us keep her!
Being raised on a farm we were limited to the usual pets, cats, dogs, tropical fish, canaries, parakeets, pheasants, turkeys, chickens, guinies, racoons, skunks, opposoms, turtles, snakes, squirils and a groundhog.
Well, we had dogs and cats at different times, but my favorite was the parakeets. We left the TV on one day when we left…when Star Wars *first* came out on HBO and when we got back the bird had learned to sing part of the theme song!
