To kick off a “Bloggy Giveaway” here at the Food Bowl, you’ve got a chance to win one of ten copies of the book “A Friend Like Henry!” (Ten winners, one book each.)
The international bestselling book A Friend Like Henry is stealing the hearts of readers everywhere. It is an inspirational and compelling memoir by the mother of a young autistic boy named Dale and his golden retriever Henry.
While most people associate dogs as loving family pets or trained service dogs for those who are physically disabled, most people don’t think of them as a resource for those living with a condition such as autism.
The remarkable true story of Dale and Henry takes you on a journey of unconventional friendship, where a dog not only became an autistic boy’s best friend, but an invaluable tool for living life to the fullest.

Sounds like a great book. We had a poodle named Happy, and a cat named Puff when I was really young, then a cat named Pookie, and a fabulous Irish Setter named Shane, he was a really great dog.
We had a white German Shepard when I was a kid and he was such a sweety. One day a car driving by had hit him and he passed away during the night. It broke my heart! Now with my kids, we have a Golden Retriever and she is the best dog in the world…truely she is! I would love to read this book esp. because it has a G.R. in it like ours! Thanks so much for doing this giveaway for us!

I had lots of pets over the years. I think my favorite was my cat “Kalittyditty.” We named her that because that is what I said when I was trying to say “Here, kitty kitty!” My parents thought it was cute.
I had a puppy named Nana, after the dog in Peter Pan!
My fave childhood pet was my first pet, a dog. I would love to win this book though because I work with so many autistic kids in the school setting. I wonder how they react to pets.
I have to give love to two childhood pets. My cat, Tabby, whom I gave my security blanket as a very young girl (when she was my aunt’s cat) and my beagle, Snickers, whom I named when my parents brought her home from the animal shelter (I was in fourth grade).
When I was in grade school we had a big black cat named Tom who used to run to the bus stop to meet me every day.

I have had dogs all my life, and have tons of stories, so I’ll just sum up our first dog. I was a baby being carried by my dad in a wagon around the block. She followed us home. We called the number on the tag and they told us to just keep her. So we did. She liked to run away and she was often in trouble but she was a beautiful black lab. I named her after a character in my parent’s soap opera, whom i thought was beautiful, Julie. She got old and eventually had diabetes and cataracts. She was old and skinny and couldn’t see. One day while camping she walked right into the fire!!!
I miss her so much. How fantastic! Thank you for this giveaway; I hope I win

harry Truman once said that in Washington DC if you need a firend get a dog. So is the life for the autistic child and the love uncondionally of the canine.

The only pets we had as children were parakeets. They were so sweet and chirpy. I was studying french in school so my mom gave them french names, Angelique and Richard. (pronounced ree-shard). When Angelique died, she got another bird and named her Monique. When another one died and I can’t remember which one, she couldn’t take the heartbreak anymore so that was the end of pets.

We had a very nice dog.
My guinea pig John Peter. I loved him so much!
We had a dachshund named “Saucy” (short for “Sausage”, of course) who was VERY protective of my mother. When my father would get home from work and come give her a kiss, Saucy would dash out and nip at his ankles and growl.
I remember a long sequence of Siamese cats, usually one older and one younger at any given time. It always seemed like the older one had to spend awhile being irritated and “giving feedback” until each new kittenish one had learned the household routine. A condensed snapshot of life through the generations…
How perfect is this? My son is on the spectrum and we are still grieving the loss of our Golden, Lucas!
We had an awesome cat named Mr. Whiskers who was very lovable!
