I’m holding another giveaway/drawing at Quilting and Patchwork.  This one is in conjunction with the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival, July 28-Aug. 1.

I’m offering the book, Sarah’s Patchwork, a novel by Stephanie Grace Whitson.  We follow orphan Sarah Biddle as she starts her heirloom patchwork quilt in her new home in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She grows from a frightened orphan girl to a courageous woman, stitching her quilt of past and present.  This book is part of the Keepsake Legacies series.

The giveaway is open to those who live in the United States or have a mailing address here.  The dates are July 28- Aug. 1, at 11:59 AM eastern.

Leave a comment below.  (Include your e-mail address in the sign-in procedure, so I’ll know how to contact you. E-mail addresses are not made public.)

Tell us about your quilting, if you’d like.  Do you have any heirloom quilts in your family?

The other Giveaway I have at Quilting and Patchwork ends July 31.  This is for the book, What I Learned from God While Quilting.

I love to quilt and have many of my own, although I give away most of them. I like to do everything by hand. We have my husband’s grandmother’s quilt, which is very special to us.

  2. Renee G says:

I’m not a quilter yet. However, I just keep buying fabric, pattern books, etc. I’m just a little intimidated about starting a project– but I love to shop :)
We have quilts in my family that were my grandmother and grandfather’s families. I’d love to be able to make at least 2 (one for each of my children.)

  3. Cheryl says:

I have a lot of my grandma’s old shirts that I would love to make into a quilt.

  4. wow i love to try and win this

  5. reeva says:

  6. NANCY says:

i LOVE to quilt when I have a few spare minutes and even when I don’t, I have a few old quilts from a Great Aunt and some blocks from my grandma that I still need to finish into a quilt.

  7. Loralie Martin says:

I have quilts made by both my grandmothers and also several aunts. My grandmothers & one of my aunts taught me to quilt, so their quilts are special to me.

  8. sandy says:

    just started

  9. Nann says:

I have three “heirloom” quilts, if you stretch the definition a bit. The oldest is a baby quilt from the early 1950’s. It made for me by the women in my mother’s church circle. My sister used it as an infant, and she used it for her two children. Mother made two kit quilts in the early 1960’s. Mine is a pansy wreath that is now in use in my guest room. (My sister’s was turquoise cross-stitch; I don’t know what happened to it.) The third–which stretches the definition–is the first quilt I made. (Am I old enough to make heirlooms?!) It’s a double-bed, cross-stitch (avocado green) from a kit that I made the year I was in library school. I did the embroidery first semester and the hand-quilting the second semester. That was 34 years ago–and I still use both the quilt and the degree!

  10. Nora in CT says:

I have two heirloom quilts–one made by my dad’s mom is a small baby quilt and has appliqued butterflies on a white ground. The other made by my mom who was not crafty, which makes me love it even more. It’s a Sunbonnet Sue using blocks made by my mom’s two sisters and their mother from scraps of my clothes from childhood. It is worn almost to thin air in some places. When we moved to Rhode Island from California, this quilt was the one item that was lost. I cried and cried. Imagine my joy when on Christmas morning there was just one more present for me–they had found my quilt in the potato cellar of the new house!! Thanks for the fun chance to win a book and share stories.

  11. Patti says:

Since I know of no quilting history in my heritage (although I know that I had great-aunts who were career women- one was a butcher!) I am first generation quilter with another cousin or two that does some…

I appreciate the history and love that has gone into quilting in the past.

  12. Patti says:

My husbands grandmother is teaching me how to quilt and I love it!!

  13. Michelle says:

We do have heirloom quilts in our family. My Grandma used to quilt and gave each baby one and also gave a quilt to each bride or young girl for their beds. I wish I could quilt, but I honestly haven’t had the time to take on another project.

  14. Memarie Lane says:

There’s a quilt in my husband’s family that’s been past down for several generations. He was very upset when it was passed to his sister instead of him. Every baby born into the family has to be wrapped in the quilt. I’m not sure how it started, but it’s pretty neat!

  15. Marsel McKee says:

My heirloom quilt is the one my great-grandma made for me when I moved out of my crib and into my “big girl” bed. She died shortly thereafter, and I have very little actual memory of her, so it is precious to me to hold this quilt, touch the fabrics, and know that she used them, selected them, cut them out with her template made from newspaper, and then handstitched each piece together with love for her great-granddaughter.

I am working on my first “real” quilt, but I hope to progress throughout the next few decades so that I can pass on some heirlooms to the next generation!

  16. Katy says:

This book sounds TOTALLY up my alley!!! I would LOVE to have the chance to read it! I have never quilted before…but i LOVE quilts and the histories that go with them! I would love to learn to quilt someday as well! :)

  17. Qtpies7 says:

  19. geri says:

All my aunts worked together to make my grandmother a quilt when my aunt died. It has a special heart patch from each of them and a patch with each of their names embroidered on it for her. She had a lot of kids so it’s a really big quilt!

  23. Suzie G says:
