the_pill.jpgI wrote about taking birth control pills continuously and how that may affect you, but I didn’t talk about a side effect that’s possible with any use of birth control pills.

Caitlin at College Candy wrote about her recent horrible experience with a blood clot in her lung in Birth Control Has Side Effects: I Should Know.

Yes, blood clots as a result of birth control pills are considered rare, but rare doesn’t mean impossible, even for the young and healthy.

Certain types of birth control pills might increase the risk of blood clots.

Did you know your blood-clot risk is higher with the birth control patch Ortho Evra?

There’s also a grassroots petition to ban third-generation oral contraceptives containing desogestrel because of concerns over increased risks of clots.

Please don’t be shy when talking to your doctor and pharmacist about your risks when taking birth control pills. And make sure your prescribing doctor is fully aware of your medical history.
