Blood test breakthrough.
If you, like me, quiver at the thought of having a long needle inserted into your uterus to draw amniotic fluid out for prenatal testing (otherwise known as an amniocentesis), fear no more. British scientists have found a non-invasive way to test for conditions such as Down’s Syndrome by extracting tiny fragments of a foetus’ DNA that have leaked into its mother’s bloodstream, eliminating the need for invasive methods such as amniocenteses, and reducing the risks of miscarriage in the process.
