The-green-eatersThe Green Eaters – A dream come true” is a delightful picture book about five animal friends who dream of a better farm.

The animals live in the Dreary Day Factory Farm where life is miserable. Then one day, their dreams come true, and they move to The Green Eaters Farm where everything is clean and fresh. Retails for $12.99 at Amazon.

I read the book to my daughter once and she immediately got the idea of taking care of animals and putting them in a better farm to grow. It’s a colorful book, and the words are simple enough for preschoolers to understand. The characters (animals) even have personalities that delighted the child. The concept is very simple, and the book is meant as a catalyst, an opener, for discussing organic living. It’s also a treat for children who haven’t grown up in farms, or around the natural home of animals, for them to know that animals DO need good conditions to thrive. Just like humans do.

The author of the book is Jennifer Murphy of Chapter One Organics. She grew up in suburban DC back when there were still farms everywhere. She got the idea when she first heard of factory farming and the deplorable conditions of the animals. She was actually surprised to find very few children’s books have been written about the subject.
