Book shopping

We’re a reading family over here. I haven’t read as much lately as I used to pre-kids but I’m getting back to it more and more now. I’m on my fourth book since 2008 began, and while that’s not impressive compared to my childless days, it’s definitely better than this time last year. My husband reads regularly. My oldest has learned to read and although it kills bedtime, at least she’s avoiding sleep because she’s lying in bed reading to herself. Even my youngest who would never tolerate being read to will finally bring me books and asking me to “read a story?” and even before this milestone, she’d happily flip through a book on her own (including our own books without any pictures at all, weirdo).

I’m looking to use some Amazon gift certificates to add to our collection since I’m getting a bit tired of reading the same darn stories. What are some of your family favorites? My youngest loves her Winnie the Pooh series and anything about Dora, Caillou, or Cinderella. My oldest loves books about farms, animals, and is eager for slightly older stories with chapters now – I’m looking forward to reading The Secret of NIMH to her but I think I’ll start with Charlotte’s Web for now.

Share your favorites, they might inspire my shopping!
