With Earth Day approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to write about books that teach children about the environment. I want to start by highlighting a series with each book focusing on a different eco-friendly topic. The Why Should I? book series published by Barron’s Educational Series Inc. includes four titles related to the environment written by Jen Green and illustrated by Michael Gordon:
- Why Should I Recycle? - Students take a trip to the recycling plant and learn the importance of recycling
- Why Should I Protect Nature? - Children take a trip to the countryside and learn why it’s important to protect trees, pick up trash and more
- Why Should I Save Energy? - A community has a blackout and children learn the importance of conserving natural resources like energy
- Why Should I Save Water? - Children learn ways to conserve water and the value of clean water
The books in the Why Should I? series are all under $7.00 and are meant for children between the ages of 4-7. Each book includes information at the end to help parents or teachers use the books with children in the most effective ways.
Do you have a favorite book or series of books that teaches children about protecting the environment or conservation?
