Intuitively, it’s easy to understand why breastfed children have a lower risk of heart disease. Breastmilk is superior to artificial formula in its fat composition and other immune properties. But it’s not just breastfed children who benefit. Their mothers do as well.
New Scientist reports from a meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine in San Francisco that mothers who breastfeed for a total of at least two years have a 19% lower risk of having a heart attack. Angela at Breastfeeding 1-2-3 has more on breastfeeding and its effect on heart disease.
