Buckle Up, Kids!

Yesterday morning, I was involved in a car accident. I was in the queue at a stop light on my way to work when a car hit me from behind which in turn caused my car to hit the car in front of me.
I have minor whiplash and chest injuries caused by the seat belt but I am thankful that I religiously buckle up whenever I get into the car. My injuries could have been worse if not for the seat belt. This is something my Husband and I reinforce on our daughter and any friend or family member who rides with us.
Here’s my car with the ding
My car is more damaged than it looks here. The bumper pushed into my boot which caused the spare tire to dislodge the floor of my boot. It is a mess. The bonnet of the car is not good either. The elderly woman must not have been paying attention. I saw her on my rear view mirror and wondering to myself why she doesn’t seem to be slowing down and bam, before I knew it, my car got hit. I let out a wee squeak as her car hit mine. It was such a thunderous crash with metal hitting each other like that. Quite scary!
What’s scary is that even with my car stationary like that, my bag which was sitting on the passenger seat flew onto the windshield. What more if the accident occurred while the car was moving? It could’ve been worse!

(The car on the left is the car that hit me from behind and the one on the right is the car I pushed after being hit)
It’s been 2 days since the accident and I haven’t driven yet. I am off to get my courtesy car tomorrow morning and not sure how I’d feel about driving again.
I cringe at the thought of those times we didn’t buckle up when we used to live in the Philippines. Buckling up wasn’t mandatory then and there were no TV ads showing what could happen to you or your loved ones if you get into a car accident and you’re not wearing a seat belt.
So to all you who do not religiously wear your seat belt, learn from my experience. You never know when accidents might hit you or your loved ones!

Glad to hear that you’re relatively unscathed from the accident. It’s amazing how in other countries there’s no “seatbelt” law and they all drive CRAZY!
