Better Paper is a project of Green America and focuses on paper production and consumption economy that repairs, rather than damages, our environment while creating sustainable jobs for the community. Better Paper seeks out collaboration among paper manufacturers, merchants, investors, businesses, nonprofits and consumers to achieve the vision of a wider use of socially and environmentally responsible paper.

For example, Better Paper helps advise magazines about how to switch to recycled paper and promotes magazines that have already made a commitment to eco-friendly production practices. Better Paper magazine participants are printed on recycled and/or FSC-certified papers. Because recycled paper use helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, preserves forests, and diverts solid waste from landfills it’s much better to reward green magazines that are using recycled content paper (by buying them) then it is to reward magazines who continue to use virgin paper in their publication production.
Below are some of the magazines who print on recycled and/or FSC-certified papers:
- American Cowboy
- Arts & Crafts Homes
- Audubon Magazine
- Body + Soul
- Boho
- Fast Company
- GOOD
