At Play in a Field Of Books: altered books in Minnesota

January 12-March 29, 2008
As part of the city wide celebration of altered books, Susan Hensel Gallery and MNARTISTS.ORG invite you to apply to be part of the Minnesota contingent to be exhibited in “SPACE 144,” a display case gallery, at the Minneapolis Central Public Library. Reception and panel discussion Thursday, Feb 7, 6:30-8pm
The exhibition will be part of a city-wide series of workshops, exhibitionsand programs capped by the annual convention of the Public LibraryAssociation, in Minneapolis, March 25-29, 2008.
According to the International Society of Book Artists, an altered book is any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. For the purposes of this call, the definition can be stretched to include book objects, and sculptures that use some component of a published book.

HOW TO APPLY

Email up to 3 high quality jpg’s. Please include a description that includes media, approximate size of piece and display requirements. Appointments may be made for in-person viewing of work. 2-d and 3-d, all media are welcome as long as recycled book elements are a component of the work and size matches the case. Accepted artists will be expected to provide a resume and artist’s statement about their work and any available press clippings.

Applications must arrive by November 28, 2007
Decisions will be sent by Dec 1, 2008.
Delivery will be to Susan Hensel Gallery by January 6, 2008

    I think I might like to do this. Do I need to reside in MN to participate??? If so, does having family in St. Paul and Faribault count!!! By the way, I read your blog often—I always like what I see.

    On re-reading this, Shari, I’m afraid that is what it means…”part of the Minnesota contingent”. That’s really too bad, because I didn’t read it closely enough and it was posted to an international mailing list :-(

    Hi all-
    You do not need to be a MN resident to participate, although MN resident’s will be advantaged. Having family in St. Paul and Fairbault is more than enough!
