Call for entries: GreenCraft Magazine

August 13, 2009 by Cyndi Lavin

Finding creative uses for old items is nothing new to artists, but the spirit of preserving the planet is more important than ever before and GreenCraft Magazine is here to honor and inspire those who find artistic uses for normally discarded resources.  You already know that one of our mottoes here is “Don’t throw ANYthing out!”  So look around you and see what you’ve got to work with  :-)

GreenCraft Magazine will provide ideas for repurposing trash to treasure by showcasing projects where waste is repurposed into ecologically chic creations.

To be considered for publication in this semi-annual magazine, please submit your recycled, reused and repurposed items to GreenCraft Magazine no later than September 15, 2009.

To jump start your creativity, you might want to look through some of these sites.  But please, use them for inspiration only…these ideas have already been done!

This is awesome…I’ve never heard of this magazine before but clearly it’s a sign of the times. I’m not sure if it’s oddly serendipitous that our economy tanked at roughly the same time that the green movement gained steam, but in a way, I’m almost thankful because it’s making it “cool” to break the wasteful cycle and use every scrap in the best, most practical manner possible. Whatever way we can promote greener living is great in my book.

In the vein of green crafting and turning “trash into treasure,” I hope it’s cool if I also mention an eco-art contest that is ending this Saturday, August 15 on http://www.greenwala.com. So few people have entered…I think it’s a shame, but the good news is that the odds are stacked in everyone’s favor to win. I’ve seen some amazingly creative repurposed art pieces…even if you’re intimidated by entering, it’s fun to admire the artistic inspiration and get ideas for your own green crafting projects in the future. Here’s the link if anyone wants to take a look: http://www.greenwala.com/greenwala_contests
