Camping with kids

It’s beautiful isn’t it? It’s a lovely river that is across the road from where we went camping last year.

And this was our nice little tent that we slept in in a field that was quite nice, even though something in it made my allergies go haywire.

I had a great time; I love camping. We’re also leaving to go again tomorrow (well, hopefully tomorrow, pending the time my husband finishes work; otherwise it will be early Saturday morning). We’ll be sleeping there tomorrow night and again on Saturday night. I’m looking forward to it, for the most part.

The problem with camping with young kids is that it’s not all that relaxing. I have to keep an eye on both of them at all times; my husband is a musician so he’ll be playing some live music so during those times I won’t have any backup and I’ll be on my own to make sure neither of them disappears into the woods or into that lovely river up top. You know, no stress.

It’s also stressful getting ready. I’m often a last minute packer since I hate doing it, but I thought I’d be smart and get things done today. I left all the last minute items for tomorrow and packed up all the clothes and whatnot this afternoon. I may as well have waited until 4 pm tomorrow for all the stress it saved me. Between one kid disappearing with my list and pen and the other sneaking things out of the suitcase as fast as I could put them in, I was starting to think we’d never get through it.

Luckily I am all about televisions being babysitters when necessary so I set them up with a movie and managed to get as much done as I possibly could.

Now as long as I don’t forget the diapers or my glasses tomorrow, we’ll be okay! When I get back, I’ll see what tips I can give you for camping with young kids based on what experiences I have this coming weekend!
