Can weight loss surgery help relieve back pain?

It’s a thought, isn’t it? If someone who is severely overweight and who has chronic back pain undergoes gastric bypass surgery, will the back pain be relieved as the weight starts to drop?
With the rising rate of obesity in North America, signs are that gastric bypass surgery will become more popular. Add to that the fact that chronic lower back pain is one of the most common complaints of chronic pain in the Western world, we could be facing a different type of “epidemic.”
Researchers at the University of Southern California did a small study that involved only 38 patients who had lower back pain and had the gastric bypass surgery within the previous six months. The patients were then asked about their back pain after surgery as compared with before.
You can read about the study and the results in this article, Gastric bypass surgery and effect on lower back pain.

Interesting Post!
Well, it seems that most chiropractic patients started wearing sacroiliac belts (aka SI belt) around their pelvis as it is recommended by most chiropractors across America. By providing the correct balance of resistance and resilience, the sacroiliac belt re-establishes the joint’s normal motion, relieving stress and instability at these weight bearing structures.
There are many good SI Belts out there, but as far as quality, comfort, and prices are considered – Serola Sacroiliac Belt seems to be the best in the market. I’d say it was well worth my $38 investment when I was in severe back pain, which was caused by a sports injury.

Hope this info is helpful to others. Good Luck!
