Christina, I used Freecycle too and its great. Some of the things that I wished Freecycle could do that inspired SocialWay were (1) I want to be able to lend and borrow too in addition to just giving away. (2) I want to be able to search for something I need when I need it (3) there was too much email on Freecycle - hundreds of messages a day and I could not keep up! If you think your neighborhood would like to try out SocialWay, I would love to hear about it.

nxg, we use Freecycle often in our neighborhood. It's very much like your site, in that users post what they have to give away, and users post what they are looking for, and everything is for free. I hope SocialWay works for people as well as Freecycle does!

SocialWay is a cool new website that makes it easy for people to come together to share items (books, movies, music, toys, tools etc.) for free. It’s a great way to be environmentally and socially responsible while increasing your access to stuff. Works well with people you meet frequently - at work, school or in the neighborhood. And it is a great way for moms to get stuff for kids that are not needed for long.

Go through your house and list stuff to lend or give away TODAY. The best thing I like about the site is that it works even when you are attached to your things and do not want to get rid of them - you can lend them to people you know instead of giving away.

It is getting a lot of users in India. Come on USA, we are the ones who need to share more!

[...] It’s a group started in San Francisco (where else?) that made a promise not to buy anything new for a year. I wrote about it over at Inside Motherhood (read “Can you live with less? The Compact is inspiring change“). From time to time, I’ll write about how I’m doing with that promise. So far, so good. My first snag was today, when I got a call for a job interview on Friday (go, ME!) but don’t have any nice paper to print my resume! What to do? [...]
